Heavenly Mountainly Resort - Heavenly Mountain Resort is the largest ski area in California, with over 4800 ski able acres and nine peaks. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced/expert snow junkies will have no problem having the time their lives at this ski resort. Boasting Lake Tahoe’s largest super pipe, the award-winning terrain park is too tempting to pass up. Heavenly ski area lodging is plentiful thanks to the hotel casinos, South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals and Stateline vacation rentals which dot the area. For those who want the easiest of access to skiing, Ski in ski out vacation rental condos are available on the Nevada side of Heavenly ski area. Stats: 91 trails on 4800 acres, rated 20% beginner, 45% intermediate, 35% expert. Longest run 5.5 miles, base, 6540ft, summit 10,067ft. Lifts 30, including an aerial tram, gondola, 2 high-speed six-packs, and 6 high-speed quads. Annual snowfall 360 inches.

Kirkwood - A purists’ dream, Kirkwood Mountain Resort consistently gets the deepest natural snow anywhere at Tahoe. An abundance of deep, dry white gold awaits those who make the journey to this resort. 58km of superbly groomed tracks and skating lanes make this area also great for cross-country skiing. If snow adventure is your drive in life then don’t miss the Kirkwood experience. Kirkwood is somewhat isolated from the rest of Lake Tahoe lodging, although it now has some accommodations in their newly updated base village area.

However, most people choose to stay in a South Lake Tahoe vacation rental in the nearby Stateline area. Stats: 65 trails on 2300 acres, rated 15% beginner, 50% intermediate, 20% advanced, 15% expert. Longest run 2.5 miles, base 7800ft, summit 9800ft. Lifts 14, including 2 high-speed quads. Annual snowfall 500 inches.

Sierra-at-Tahoe - Popular with snowboarders, this resort usually is less crowded than some of the bigger resorts. All ability types will wear themselves out with shorter lifts and varied terrain. The facilities at this ski resort are limited and as a result lodging isn't available on site. However, South Lake Tahoe vacation rentals, hotels and condos are very close and convenient. Stats: 46 trails on 2000 acres, rated 25% beginner, 50% intermediate, 25% advanced. Longest run 2.5 miles, base 6640ft, summit 8852ft. Lifts 11, including 3 high-speed quads. Annual snowfall 560 inches.
